Mad Scientist

Bill Gates and a team of scientist have submitted patent applications in order to stop hurricanes from forming in the ocean.

So has Bill Gate turned into a Mad Scientist?

The only possible way to stop a hurricane would be to stop it from forming or gaining more momentum. Water temperatures influence the movements of air that facilitate the formation of hurricanes. Air that moves from cold pockets to hot pockets begin to create the winds that fuel hurricanes.

Based on the patent submitted, barges need to be placed in the path of the oncoming storm and would be equipped with two 500 feet long conduits. The conduit’s job is to bring up cold water that lies deep undersea.

The problem lies with putting the barges in front of the storm or have them sit there waiting for the storm to come. For many skeptic scientists the latter would be more believable, though not financially feasible, since it would take several days to cool the ocean’s surface that is in the path of the hurricane to a low enough temperate where it can actually diminish the force of a hurricane.

For now it remains just a patent idea and nothing else, I’m sure that if it ever were considered for a realistic endeavor many factor would come into play such as, costs, environmental impacts, and alternative solutions, in case a hurricane decides not to take the path where the barges are waiting for it.
