Follow these points to tell if a job offering you received by email is the job opportunity you have been waiting for, or if it is a scam.

  1. Email does not come from “someone @ a company.com”, instead it comes from a yahoo, msn, aol, hotmail or some other email service anyone can get online. This might not say much but at least it should match with the company’s signature at the bottom, and abbreviations of companies name like “DPCJ” don’t say much either.

  2. Email structure seem legit that is it starts with “Thank you “Your Name”for your interest in our job listing.”, and it goes on to talk about how the company was founded or how its a start up and what not.

  3. Throughout the email it keeps saying “work you choose to do is up to you”, “you can make up to 3,000+ a week”.  This sound too good to be true, specially if it seems like there is no boss to report to or someone who will be supervising the amount of work you do… in my point of view if you don’t have a boss, then who is going to pay you for your work…

  4. You need to:

    1. Right click on the link they give you, a pop-up menu appears

    2. Go to properties, found at the bottom of the pop-up menu.

    3. A Properties window appears with a General tab, read the Address (URL):, the address shown should match the destination. For example if the URL address says “businessxyz.com” somewhere on the link, then left clicking on the link should take you to “businessxyz”

  5. Go to the website and if it does not say that it requires a processing fee, membership or a free trial then go to the “Terms of Use” at the bottom of page to make sure there is no payment obligation from your part. Many companies really offer free trials, but you have to complete “training” or certain amount of “orders” or “adds” withing a time limit to qualify for your free “trial” or “membership”, or to get your money back.

  6. Lastly, REAL jobs pay YOU for your service. Not the other way around. So never give out your credit card to get a job, even if it’s for a “free trial” or “membership” or “verification”, because then it is not really a free job offer that you’re getting.

In legit jobs, you provide a service and you get paid for it, thats how it works.  For example, you clean something, you provide a service, you make a product, you flip a burger, etc.. then you get paid sometime after one or two weeks. You don’t have to pay ahead of time for some work or material that you will be using in your line of work so you can later get paid for it, specially if you don’t have the job yet, don’t pay ahead of time.

This is an image of a company that is offering a “job” but you have to comply with a trial by paying a security deposit.

Please don’t fall for online scams or “real” jobs where your money gets taken away and you end up without a job and broke.
