With the following steps you’ll be minimizing the risk of getting your computer infected.
- Keep your computer up to date. Run Windows Update. This is the first step in protecting yourself from viruses, worms, trojans, malware, spyware and adware. The update removes Malicious software from your computer.
- Have a firewall enabled. If you’re behind a router and/or DSL/Cable modem you may already have a firewall enabled, check the device’s manual. Windows already comes with a firewall. Go to Control Panel and make sure your firewall is not disabled.
- Have an antivirus program up to date. AVG Anti-Virus Free is a great program that comes with Anti-virus, Anti-Spyware, Link Scanner(scans links from search engines and shows the ones with dangerous contend in red), and my personal favorite, Resident Shield (it scans files that you work with in the backgrond using very little of your memory).
- Install Windows Defender for extra added protection.
